Starring Eddie Murphy, "Beverly Hills Cop III" sees the return of Alex Foley, this time investigating a car-theft ring that leads him back to a theme park in southern California. Featuring a runtime of 104 minutes, the film includes a trailer and cast and crew interviews (1994). The languages available are English and dubbed French.
Unfortunately, the third installment in the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise fails to capture the same charm as its predecessors. Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley ventures to Los Angeles once again to avenge a friend's murder, this time finding himself at the Disneyesque WonderWorld, a seemingly hazardous theme park guarded by an army of shady security agents.
Director John Landis, who previously collaborated with Murphy on the hit film "Trading Places," seems like a natural fit for the mix of action and comedy. However, his sense of fun only shines through in a few scenes, such as the chubby mechanics' energetic "Blues Brothers" number set to a Diana Ross tune. Regrettably, Landis' action direction is sloppy and shockingly violent, which clashes with the film's overall comedic tone.
One of the film's bright spots is the return of Bronson Pinchot as Serge, who nearly steals the show in his brief but hilarious scenes, often outshining Murphy. Nonetheless, Murphy's character could have benefited from a more disciplined approach, with his foul-mouthed dialogue potentially warranting a soap-washing punishment.
Overall, "Beverly Hills Cop III" fails to recapture the magic of the previous installments, leaving viewers with a disappointing third chapter in the franchise. The film's uneven tone, poor action sequences, and missed comedic opportunities ultimately detract from the otherwise promising premise of Axel Foley's latest adventure.
